LPL Champions to Compete Remotely at Mid-Season Invitational 2022

RIOT Games Global Head of LoL Esports Naz Aletaha has announced that the winner of the Chinese league LPL will not be able to travel to South Korea to participate in Mid-Season Invitational 2022 in person due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. However, the company has decided to allow the team to partake in the event remotely.

To ensure a level playing field for all participants of the event, all games throughout the MSI will be played at a ~35 ms ping – earlier RIOT Games used similar measures during LPL vs LCK Showdown in 2020. The participating teams will have an opportunity to practice and scrim at this ping. Moreover, the company will deploy referee support and monitoring in both Korea and China.

Recently LPL Spring 2022 faced several postponements due to restrictions related to a surge in COVID-19 cases in China. Now however the league is almost over, with only one game remaining – in its grand finale Royal Never Give Up will face Top Esports. The series is scheduled for April 23rd, 10:30 AM UK time.

Earlier we reported that this year Mid-Season Invitational will be played in a South Korean city Busan from May 10th to 29th. Currently the line-up includes DetonatioN FocusMe, G2 Esports, Istanbul Wildcats, ORDER, PSG Talon, T1 and Team Aze.
