NAVI Defeat G2 in Grand Finals of PGL Stockholm Major

For the first time in the club’s history, Natus Vincere have become the major champions. In the grand finals of PGL Major Stockholm 2021 they defeated G2 Esports, claiming $1,000,000 in prize money.

Thanks to their first place in the CIS RMR-rating, NAVI started competing at the major in its second stage. There they finished first with a 3-0 score after outplaying Heroic, Virtus.pro and Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-0). Later the team defeated Vitality (2-0) in the quarterfinals and Gambit (2-0) in the semifinals.

Playoffs Bracket:

The deciding series began with G2’s pick, Ancient. Starting as CTs, there NAVI managed to win the first half with a 8-7 score and then confidently finished the map with a 16-11 score. The second map – Nuke – featured an incredibly close fight between the teams. Losing 10-15 as CTs, NAVI managed to win five rounds in a row and bring the game into tiebreakers. The teams played the first tiebreaker in draw, while later NAVI managed to win with a 4-1 score in the second one.

Despite being one of the most renowned teams in CS:GO’s history, Natus Vincere have never won an official major before. This major however they managed to make it all the way through the event without losing a single map. The team’s newest member – Valerii "b1t" Vakhovskyi – finished the event with a 1.44 rating and a 72.7% headshot rate.

The final New Champions Stage of the major was played on November 4th – 7th at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, with live audience. This was the first CS:GO major since 2019. During the grand finals, the number of concurrent viewers reached as high as 2.5 million without Chinese platforms. The previous record was 1.3 million during ELEAGUE Major in 2018.
