NAVI Defeat G2 to Win IEM Cologne
Natus Vincere have become the champions of IEM Cologne 2021. In the tournament’s grand finals they defeated G2 Esports with a devastating 3-0 score. This victory brings the team $400,000 in prize money and makes them one first place away from winning the third season Intel Grand Slam.
NAVI started the event in Group B, where they placed first after defeating Renegades (2-1), Team Vitality (2-1), and Astralis (2-1). Later in the semifinals they outplayed FaZe Clan (2-0), who earlier in the quarterfinals eliminated Gambit Esports (1-2). In the grand finals NAVI outplayed G2 at Dust II (16:11), Mirage (16:14) and Nuke (16:13).
Playoffs Bracket:
Following this event, NAVI are now the leaders with of Intel Grand Slam 3 with 3 points – besides the Cologne event, earlier they also emerged victorious at DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 and IEM XIV – World Championship. Now the team has to win only event to claim $1,000,000. This August the team will travel to Malta to participate in ESL Pro League Season 14, which is also part of the series.
IEM XVI – Cologne was the first major international CS:GO event since the pandemic. The tournament was played from July 6th to July 18th in Cologne, Germany, featuring 24 teams competing for a $1,000,000 prize pool. The results are as follows:
