Next Hearthstone Expansion to Introduce Duels and Revamp Progression System with a Tavern Pass

The next Hearthstone expansion is called Madness at the Darkmoon Faire and will release on November 17th. Besides introducing 135 new cards and a keyword Corrupt, the update will also add a new game-mode Duels and revamp progression system, adding a version of Battle Pass to the game.

As usual, the developers will be revealing new cards day by day, starting on November 4th – they can be seen here. Some of the new cards will be Corrupted – the power corrupted with this keyword cards increase when you play a higher cost card. On top of that, the expansion will mark the return of The Old Gods – C’thun, N’Zoth, Yogg-Saron, and Y’Shaarj – with changed Battlecries and Artifacts.

The new game-mode – Duels – is similar to Dungeon Run, however pits you against real players instead of AI-controlled bosses. Starting a match, you will have to choose a Hero, a Hero Power, a Treasure, and build a 15-card deck from your collection. Between matches, you will be able to improve your deck by adding minions, spells and treasures. The run ends when you lose three and win 12 games. This game mode has a separate rating system, which works similar to the Battlegrounds rating.

The developers have also created a new progression system, which they claim to be the biggest system update in the game’s history. First of all, the game now has an Achievement tab, which tracks your stats and in-game accomplishments. The biggest change is however the addition of Reward Track – a twist on the standard Battle Pass you see in other games. Players will be able to unlock rewards by completing quests, gaining achievements, and simply playing the game. Some rewards will be available for everyone, while others – only for those who bought a premium Tavern Pass.

To make it easier to advance in the Reward Track, the developers have also updated the quests to provide experience towards the track. Besides the daily quests, players will now also be able to complete weekly quests – each week players will get three weekly quests, which are more difficult to complete compared to the daily ones. Lastly, the Profile Page has also been updated to better reflect players’ progress.
