Rekkles Leaves G2 to Compete in France National League

G2 Esports have announced that Martin "Rekkles" Larsson is no longer part of their League of Legends roster. The player has been transferred to a French organization Karmine Corp that competes in the national league FNL.

One of the most renowned ADC players in Europe, 25-years-old Swede Rekkles joined G2 Esports a year ago following his five-years tenure with Fnatic. Initially the player signed a three-year contract with the organization. This season, however, was one of the worst in G2’s history – they finished 3rd at LEC Spring 2021 and 4th LEC Summer 2021. Thus, the team failed to qualify for Worlds for the first time since they joined the European league in 2016.

Consequently, last month G2 decided to bench Rekkles, Martin "Wunder" Hansen and Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle, as well as the team’s two coaches. Then G2 Esports’ CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago revealed that they were looking to trade the team’s benched members. According to his post on Twitter, Rekkles’ official buyout was set at 1.5 million EUR. Apparently there were not a lot of volunteers to pay such a big sum, as later the organization tried to loan Rekkles for a “double-reduced price”. It turned out, however, that LEC rules prohibit loaning players within the same league. Because of these unfortunate events, Rekkles will not play in LEC for the first time in his career.
