VALVE Cancel Dota 2 Winter Major
VALVE Cancel Dota 2 Winter Major
Leaving many players and fans discontent, VALVE have announced that there will no Dota 2 major this winter. They decided to cancel the first major of the season due to increased travel restrictions amidst the spread of new strains of COVID-19. The company decided that it was unable to gather teams from all regions in one place.
The Winter Major was supposed to feature a $500,000 prize pool and a handful of DPC points up for grabs. While the points have been redistributed to the upcoming majors, the organizers have not said a word about the prize money. This is a big blow to the leaders of the first divisions of the DPC leagues, even more so for those teams who still don’t have an organization behind them, such as Quincy Crew in North America, Team Tickles in Western Europe, and PuckChamp in Eastern Europe.
Following the conclusion of The International 2021, VALVE have presented an updated format for Dota Pro Circuit – this season was split into three tours, with each tour concluding with a major LAN-event. Currently, however, VALVE are not ready to talk about the rest of the majors.
