VALVE Might Merge RMR Events into Three Regions and Hold them at a LAN
Next Regional Major Rankings season is expected to see a number of major changes. According to hltv’s sources, VALVE have decided to run the upcoming RMR-events on LAN in three regions. Thus, the company plans to merge six regions into three – Europe with CIS, North America with South America, and Asia with Oceania.
It is expected that the regions will retain the their slots at the major: the American division will offer 6 spots (previously 5 in North America and 1 in South America), the combined European region will have 16 (previously 11 in Europe and 5 in CIS), and the Asian league will have 2 (previously 1 in Asia and 1 in Oceania). If for some reason it will not be possible to hold the events on LAN, these changes will be reverted and there will be original six regions.
While the changes described above have not been confirmed yet, VALVE have already officially updated some parts of the RMR-rulebook. The main change is how it is determined what regional a team competes in – from now on, it depends on the citizenship of the majority of its players. When there is an equal amount of players, the team chooses between the two. Earlier the teams were free to decide in which region they want to compete.
The details on the upcoming season are scarce – apparently, this year there will be two major events – one in May and the other in November. According to Dexerto, ESL plan to host ESL Major Rio de Janeiro on October 31st – November 13th.
