Virtus.pro have responded to the ESL’s decision to ban their organization from the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 15. While the Russian club believes that “there is no rational reason to suspend them from playing in tournaments”, they decided to not punish the players and allow them to compete there under a neutral name.

The organization states they shared their legal and financial information with ESL, such as country of registration, ownership and partner details. They believe, however, that the inquiry was just a formality and the provided information did not affect ESL’s decision making. Virtus.pro stress that they are not connected to the Russian government. However, they “make an impression of being connected”, which, they believe, was the reason behind their disqualification.

Earlier ESL banned Virtus.pro and Gambit Esports from being represented at EPL 15 for having “apparent ties to the Russian government”. The players of these teams, however, can participate in the event without representing their country, organizations and sponsors in any way. Gambit Esports have not commented on the situation.
